NEW JERSEY LEAGUE FOR NURSING CELEBRATING NURSING EXCELLENCE SINCE 1915
Organized October 23, 1915 as the state affiliate of the National
Organization for Public Health Nursing, the New Jersey League headquarters
were located in Newark for over 25 years.
In 1952, a vote by the members approved the corporation's name change
and amended the purpose for which the organization was formed. Thus,
the New Jersey League for Nursing, Inc. was born with a new direction.
That new direction was to foster the development and improvement of nursing services and nursing
education through the interaction of nurses, consumers,
and a variety of health care providers. The NJLN supports and implements the mission of the NLN to promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of our state, nation and the global community. It is a 501c3 nonprofit
organization that may receive tax-deductible contributions.
With generous financial support from corporations, foundations, individual contributions, special fundraising events, and our membership, the New Jersey League for Nursing has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in
nursing scholarships throughout the years .
Scholarships are granted to those interested in pursuing a career in professional nursing or continuing their
nursing education.
As a professional nursing organization, we welcome and invite all to join the NJLN and become part of this incredible member community. The NJLN offers educational programs relative to current healthcare
issues and trends to provide a forum for improving nursing practice and providing continuing education. Each Spring the NJLN hosts its annual Convention where it brings together over 500 attendees that
represent practicing nurses, nurse educators, nursing students, nurse retirees and a community of supporters from hospitals, education institutions, healthcare, and more. Each Fall the NJLN proudly hosts
its annual Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Awards event in support of their mission.
The NJLN’s strategic plan guides the direction of the NJLN which is comprised of four goals which specify current activities and future direction for the organization. The NLN reviews the strategic plan
on a yearly basis.
GOAL 1: Leader in Nursing Education: Enhance the NJLN’s state impact as the recognized leader in nursing education.
GOAL 2: Commitment to Members: Engage a diverse, sustainable, member-led organization with the capacity to deliver our mission effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with our values.
GOAL 3: Champion for Nurse Educators: Be the voice of nurse educators and champion their interests in political, academic, and professional arenas.
GOAL 4: Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education: Promote research that generates evidence about nursing education and the scholarship of teaching.
From the nurses' role as patient advocate, to the advances in nursing practice, to nurse entrepreneurs venturing out in their own
businesses, nurses have proven to be cost-effective providers of quality health care.
