I would like to personally extend an invitation to you to attend the 2010 New Jersey Nursing Convention! The New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) and the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA), have co-sponsored this event for thirteen years. The theme this year is “2010-2020 A Decade of Promise.” The Convention offers participants the opportunity to share ideas, network, receive up-to-date information on the latest topics of interest in healthcare, plus visit 100 Exhibitors and view informative Poster Sessions. As well as, earn Contact Hours required for licensure renewal. Mark your calendar now for March 24-26, 2010, to be at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City for this exciting event!
NJLN’s pre-convention program on March 24th is “Be An Innovative Nurse Educator: Strategies to Promote Classroom and Clinical Learning.” This workshop will be presented by Dr. Judith Herrman, Associate Professor and Assistant Director, College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, University of Delaware. Dr. Herrman will explore the integration of specific creative strategies in the classroom, clinical area and nursing laboratory that are effective in increasing student learning and the retention of information.
Nurses will truly be empowered with our Convention keynote presentation, “Sabotage! Dealing With Pit Bulls In The Workplace” by Dr. Judith Briles. She will present common sense strategies and solutions that are adaptable in personal and workplace environments on how to successfully deal with saboteurs that have an effect on our daily lives.
You will want to attend the NJLN Annual Business Meeting on Thursday, March 24th as we conduct our “pass the gavel” ceremony to incoming NJLN President, Eileen Williamson, RN, MSN. I will be completing my term as President of NJLN after four years and it has been my privilege and honor to serve the Nurses of New Jersey. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of the NJLN and all RN’s and LPN’s in New Jersey for their support during my term as President. I also reach out to take the hand of my colleague, Dr. Barbara Chamberlain, President of NJSNA, to thank her for her support and collegiality as our terms of office coincided for the past two years. All of you have enriched my life in so many ways, I can never thank you enough. To the Board of Directors of NJLN and to Gail Hammond, you are the GREATEST!
A special welcome to first-time Convention attendees. You will find a vast array of educational programs being offered by nursing leaders who are willing to share their expertise. This year’s Convention schedule has been expanded to include additional breakout sessions and topics of specific interest to Nurse Educators. A warm welcome to senior nursing students, you are the future of healthcare. Be sure to attend the newly designed programs created specifically for you. For the “Convention Regulars” a hearty welcome back, good to see you again, reach out to a new attendee or nursing student, be a terrific role model and network with your colleagues.
I look forward to seeing you in Atlantic City!
